Transitioning from April to May
Fresh Starts, Full Plates, and the Season of Gathering
In the shops, we’re already planning for May Day in Annapolis & Easton.
In the best possible way, May always feels like a month that can’t quite sit still. It’s full of small milestones and big feelings, from spring graduations to Mother’s Day, with Memorial Day reminding us to pause and remember those who gave us their all.
The weather finally cooperates, which means we start carrying plates outside and calling it a plan. Meals get a little lighter, a little fresher, and somehow taste better when eaten in the open air. Around here, May is about new beginnings, full tables, and keeping a little space for both celebration and reflection.

fresh from the Oven
Bread is always in season.
Bread baking is one of those small, grounding rituals where flour, water, salt, and a little patience turn into something that makes your whole kitchen feel like home. It asks you to slow down just enough to notice things—like how dough changes in your hands or how good fresh bread smells before you’ve even opened the oven.
A Dutch oven helps with the heavy lifting, trapping steam so you get that crisp crust and soft, airy middle without overthinking it. Around here, bread isn’t just food—it’s an open invitation to gather, linger, and maybe tear off one more piece than you planned.
Flour, Water, and a Good Set of Tools
Our bread and pasta tools are made for the kind of cooking that feels as good as it tastes, simple, hands on, and meant to be shared. From shaping a loaf to rolling fresh pasta, these are the pieces you will reach for often and keep within arm’s reach.
Megan’s favorite items in the shop? It’s all about sourdough.
“Feeding” a sourdough starter means giving the living culture fresh flour and water so the wild yeast and bacteria have new food to consume and can keep fermenting actively. In practice, you discard a portion of the existing starter, then mix in a measured amount of flour and water (often equal weights) to refresh it and keep the balance from getting too acidic or sluggish. After feeding, the starter should begin to bubble, rise, and develop a slightly tangy smell as it becomes strong enough for baking.

Effortless Everyday Living
Mersea is one of those brands you reach for without overthinking. It just works. The fabrics are incredibly soft, the fits are relaxed but still polished, and everything layers the way real life actually demands.
It has that easy, coastal feel, but in a way that fits just as well at my home on the Maryland Eastern shore as it does on a weekend away at the beach. At Welcome Home Markets, it’s the kind of clothing that feels comfortable, pulled together, and ready for wherever the day takes you.
We carry Mersea alongside our table linen, fine fragrance, and cooking tools because, well, sometimes you want to pull on the pefect blouse after spending the day cooking and getting ready to entertain.

Design services? Absolutely.
A bespoke tablecloth allows you to create something truly tailored, whether you’re complementing an heirloom linen or starting fresh with a new design.
We often work with customers whose tables fall outside standard dimensions—extra long, slightly narrow, or uniquely shaped—ensuring a precise and elegant fit.
Many patterns in our French linen collection can be custom cut to your exact size and shape, making it easy to refresh your table with something both beautiful and personal.
